Letter: Repealing Health Care Incredibly Short-Sighted

Henry Krisch in Storrs wrote the following letter to the Willimantic Chronicle asking if Janet Peckinpaugh has fully thought through her position that repealing health care reform is the right thing to do.

Janet Pekinpaugh, the Republican candidate running against Congressman Joe Courtney in the 2nd District, has joined others of her party in calling for repeal of the new national healthcare reform. Voters will want to know exactly which of the features of the bill now in effect does she want to repeal.

Is it the ban on discrimination against kids with pre-existing conditions? Or maybe she opposes ending lifetime coverage limits?

Is she upset that young adults can now stay on their parent’s health insurance plan up to age 26 if their job doesn’t provide health-care benefits? What does she find wrong with providing preventive care such as mammograms, colonoscopies, immunizations, pre-natal and baby care without charging you any out of pocket costs? Is she sorry that we will no longer suffer from restrictions on emergency room care? Will she herself not take advantage of these improvements in our care?

Or maybe we should all just vote for Courtney.
