Letter: Courtney Helped Win Sub Contracts
Bill Giustini, first vice president of the Marine Draftmen’s Association-United Auto Workers Local 571 at Electric Boat, wrote a letter to The Day about Joe’s work to double submarine production. Here is the letter from today’s paper:
Joe Courtney is the most effective congressman southeastern Connecticut has had in a long time.
With the submarine design and production contracts awarded to Electric Boat, we have seen firsthand his ability to build consensus and get things done with his colleagues on both sides of the aisle on the House Armed Services Committee.
Bringing work to build two submarines a year and design the Virginia class and Ohio replacement program submarines to the region are substantial accomplishments. They have made a huge difference for hundreds of workers who would have otherwise been unemployed.
EB’s expansion of design and engineering work into the former Pfizer facility in New London will have a lasting impact on our region for many years to come. Our congressman has achieved the success and respect due to those in office far longer than he has been, yet in his regular visits to the yard, he continues to insist that we simply call him “Joe.”
That’s the kind of guy he is – hard-working and effective, but always the same old Joe. That is why he has my vote, and I hope he will have yours.
