COURTNEY ENDORSES SECRETARY THOMAS PEREZ FOR DNC CHAIR

December 15, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Congressman Joe Courtney issued the following statement in support of Secretary Thomas Perez for chair of the Democratic National Committee:

“Today, I am enthusiastically endorsing Labor Secretary Tom Perez’s candidacy for chair of the Democratic National Committee. I have worked closely with Tom as a member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, including a stint as the ranking member of the Workforce Protections Subcommittee from 2012 to 2014. I have seen up close his extraordinary leadership skills and deep commitment to the core concerns of America’s working families and middle class – which should be the prime focus of a rejuvenated Democratic Party. His work as Secretary, including the enactment of the first job training bill since the 1990s (WOIA), completion of new retirement plan protections (the Fiduciary Rule), and updating overtime wage regulations are just a few examples of his priorities and accomplishments.

“Tom can credibly advance an agenda of job creation and income growth which our party must do in order to reassert a majority coalition. He is also a smart, dynamic and engaging person who can connect with any audience across all 50 states and in all reaches of the Party.

“I want to salute his competition, particularly my House colleague Keith Ellison who I admire greatly. This race for leaders of the DNC is a healthy one, and we are all united in the common goal of advancing a strong Democratic agenda in the coming days while laying the groundwork for rebuilding our party from the local level on up to the White House.”
